We are beginning our "Around the World" project this week. We will be learning about the culture and the languages of various countries around the world. We will be studying a new country every two weeks. More information will be sent home this week.

Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a great winter break. Here are few things happening this month.
Monday, 1/16:Martin Luther King holiday – No school
Tuesday, 1/17: Open House for 2012-2013 New Parents to SCE for the 2012-2013 school year!
This is a first time "middle of the year" event for all of Wake County public schools. Due to
the parent choice assignments, we invite New 2012-2013 School Year Parents to an
open house session held in the gym to learn more about Sanford Creek. This will be an informal information session given by administration highlighting Sanford Creek.
6pm-7pm, Tuesday January 17, 2012
Thursday, 1/19: PTA and Sanford Creek Bingo Night
General Meeting at 6:15 pm in the Media Center
Ballhandlers performance!
BINGO Night! Pizza will be available for purchase.

Volunteer Registration
The volunteer system is open from
8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Mondays only through 5/21/12 with
the exception of the follows dates: 12/19/11, 12/26/11, 1/2/12, and 1/16/12.
Food/Book/Toy Drive – To help
our area families, we will be collecting nonperishable foods and children’s
books. These will be collected between November 21st and December 12th. Donations can be dropped off in the guidance office or students can
bring items to their teachers. Items can be new or gently used and do not need
to be wrapped. Items will be donated to local shelters. Please contact Ms.
Haines at [email protected] or 570-2105.
Giving Tree – A Giving
Tree will be set up in our main office to assist families in our school.
Children will be making angels to hang on the tree. Each angel will contain
information about an item that a child in our community needs. Please visit
our tree during November and December to choose angel(s) to bring home.
Between November 21st and December 12th you may bring in the desired item wrapped with the angel taped to the package and leave it under the tree. To maintain confidentiality, our family’s names will
not be on the angels. Please contact Ms. Haines at [email protected] or 570-2105.
Thank you – to all of the parents and children who donated food items for our Thanksgiving baskets.
Sanford Creek helped 24 families at our school have a very happy Turkey Day!

This Thursday 2nd graders will be performing a musical, "Make a Difference", at 6:30 p.m. Students need to be here at 6:15 pm on the stage. We will perform for Kinder and 1st on Friday, November 4 at 2:45.
Volunteer registration –After 10/30/11, the volunteer system will be open from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Mondays only beginning 11/7/11 through 5/21/12 with the exception of the follows dates: 12/19/11, 12/26/11, 1/2/12, and 1/16/12.
The Entertainment Guide fundraiser ends tomorrow, November 1. Please return the book or payment pronto. Thank you for participating.

Thank you to the people that have returned the field trip forms and money. Field trip forms and money were due last Friday (9/23/11). Please turn them in if you have not done so already.
We now have 23 students in our class! Our class mascot is the golden eagle. More information about him will be coming soon.

Time is Running Out - Register to Volunteer before the September 30, 2011 deadline!
All volunteers that were once registered should register again (it will take no time to be approved if you register before the September 30th deadline). After the deadline, registration will only take place on Mondays 8:00-4:00 of November 7th - May 31st. If you wait to register after September 31st, it will take you longer to be approved so if you're thinking about volunteering in the school, going on a field trip, or simply helping out in any way, please register to volunteer before September 30th!
